Verified Reviewer |Problem with owner KOA MEDINA NY. ROB KEISER
After getting in touch with koa corporate I was told that koa Medina is franchised as a private campground and basically the owner can do whatever he wants to do. All I can say is karma will prevail!!
- Convenient location
- Koa medina owner and staff
Preferred solution: We had a permanent sit here for the past 12 years. We are leaving this year. Had enough of dealing with the terrible owner and just as terrible staff. So what do I want? All I can do is spread the word
User's recommendation: Don't deal with this KOA!! TERRIBLE PEOPLE

Verified Reviewer |Wrongfully terminated
My complaint is about the managerial skills. Not the manner in which the KOA creates its guests.
I am addressing the exact same issue my sister and former KOA employee addressed. I was wrongfully fired.
The UI adjudication representative Julie A.
(208) 332-**** ext 3288, and said she called to tell Me that Joanne Cates had told her that I called her (or she called me) on the 2nd of May to say I would not be back on the 5th of May for work. And this is why she chose to fire me. This is an absolute lie. This is cause for reinstatement of my job at Bear Lake KOA and the removal of the current Manager Joanne Cates.
She has proven on many times that she is not capable of managing or even honestly communicating with people. Her best interest is not with the KOA. She has stated she doesnt care how it should be done you will do it this way on more than one maintenance project.
I feel the manner in which I was fired, phone call from the Assistant Manager, Sean Allred to my sister not to me was unprofessional, disrespectful and and simply the way Joanne Cates works. I believe, as other employees believe she is bi-polar.
I believe she was told by another employee that I packed my things up and that employee felt I wasnt coming back. Joanne is the type of personality that does not allow for her to have anyone tell her they wont return. And she acted impulsively and fired me and my sister instead of verifying it herself.
I was wrongly fired. Joanne has lied on numerous occasion about many issues and it has effected me personally and financially.
I feel that KOA Corporate should look into the management practices of Joanne Cates.
I feel I should be compensated for this wrongful firing and the rent I paid for last season as was promised upon hiring of 2022.
If you need proof actual records from ATT not altered printed copy of phone records that there was no phone call to me or from me I can provide them. As well I will give permission for you to get them from ATT directly.
KOA has a manager that is not representing their core values. She is a liar. And on that basis alone she should be fired.
I know other employees will attest to her unfocused and irrational management.
I have points of contact for 3 previous employees that quit during an all employee meeting because Joanne was and had previously lied about procedures. Then she didnt support the employee when faced by a guest.
I have applied at 3 different KOAs since being fired. I havent even heard back from one of them. I am of course thinking Joanne has managed to see to it that I or my sister will not work for KOA again.
I am in the process of trying to get unemployment and Joanne is trying to prevent this from happening. She has caused me great financial despair as well as emotional. Until today the 26th of May I had no idea why Joanne had Sean call my sister and tell her we feel it is best you 2 do not return. If a phone call had been made by me or to me prior to my departure about me not returning for work on Friday, why didnt she fire me at that time?
Why did she fire my sister? As you can see clearly Joanne is a manipulator of facts and of people/employees.
I feel she should be fired immediately and I and my sister should be reinstated in our positions. As well as pay lost to be paid and last years rent reimbursed.
I was was offered and accepted the Operations Manager position for the 2024 Season at $20.00 an hour. At that time she said she input me into the system as a full time vested employee.
Meaning I would now be eligible for paid time off, insurance and other company benefits. She said I would complete the season at Bear Lake then go to another KOA for the Winter and return to Bear Lake in Spring 2024.
I received a welcome packet from Randy Howell, asst VP Risk Mgt. & Analysis in regard to my KOA profit sharing. If she did not make these promises to me then what generated this profit sharing package to come to me?
I was never counseled or talked to about any communication problems or work deficiencies.
Just the opposite.
I was constantly praised in person and amongst the other employees presence.
You may contact me for further information. I look forward to hear how this will be resolved.

Verified Reviewer |Awful experience
This company cares nothing for customer service, be forewarned
The way we were treated at one of their locations, was absolutely sickening, we were kicked out talking too loud past 11 around a campfire (we weren't) without our money being refunded back for the rest of our stay
The owners are very rude, and condescending (the way they spoke to my husbands mother earlier that day was very nasty and hostile, to the point where she was afraid to bring up an issue with the hairdryer because she thought she would get screamed at by the owner)
Looked online, and apparently there are plenty of issues with this particular campsite, but notified corporate anyway, and was told they cannot do anything about a refund, or even a credit towards a different location to provide customer service to, otherwise was a very poor experience
Considering the multiple poor reviews, that also said they would be writing into corporate with nothing being done, because obviously we fell into this issue that 30+ other people had experienced, corporate is likely not to do anything about this location (probably not even a slap on the wrist)
Its very sad to see how little they care about customer service -we will not be staying with KOA anymore, moving onto the future, and would advise everyone else to think twice before giving them your business, as we now have lost about $600
- Nice campground
- Harassment
- Will find reasons to get you to leave so they can keep the money
- Awful ownership
Preferred solution: Full refund

Verified Reviewer |Complaint - Nashville RV Resort recently purchased by KOA
We stopped in to get an RV spot. They charged us $15 for an early check-in, and it wasnt busy.
That was our first clue. At the same time we reserved a cabin for the next 10 days. When we got ready to move to the cabin, the check out time was 11 AM, and the cabin check-in was 3 PM, They would not let us go from the RV to the cabin prior to that time. That was our second clue.
They wanted us to leave and come back. But the cabin was only steps away from the RV trailer - which meant we would be taking valuable time to come back and reset up everything, plus, dragging our camper around the entire day in busy traffic. My husband got into a dispute with the desk lady. She said Im done with you.
He was livid. So, we asked to speak to the manager. He did not solve the problem, nor offer a solution that was acceptable. He basically just blamed it on KOA rules (as they had just been purchased by KOA).
We were super disappointed and left out to dry! Whatever happened to common senseMore

Problems at a koa campground
First of all I came and paid for a week on Tuesday but never came to the campground until Saturday evening..the next Tuesday I had to pay for another week..the day I came in I explained that I had lost my home in a fire and was trying to rebuild and that I had a enclosed trailer and would be bringing it to my site from time to time...the third Tues I had family drive 4 hours to help me on my home..I left the campground around 830am and nobody in office..I didn't get back that evening until 830pm at the time I called the office but no answer..I left messages and told the office I would bring the money up there or first thing in the morning..well their mornings are different hours so when I did get up there to pay I was told I could pay until Friday but had to leave cause a bad review had been posted about me blocking the road..I did have my trailer loading tools but didn't have no one blocked...then I was told the owner saw the post and wanted me to leave...first I have searched all reviews and haven't saw the post..second if they wanted me to leave why take my money until Friday..and 3rd I didn't stay but 2 days out of 7 the first week then paid almost as much for the days from Tuesday until Friday as I did all week...I think I deserve a explanation and some money back for the first week...and if I'm barely on the grass loading my trailer and I have pics of othe vehicles parked completely on the grass and have been parked in the road with beer cans everywhere...I'm disabled and have ms...and I explained my situation and now I'm asked to leave cause of a reviews that doesn't exist..come on. I think I'm owed a explanation better than I was given and some money back if I have to leave...I have already showed the pics and reviews to my good friend and he's on my side also but asked me to try and talk to someone higher up...please explain this to me and why I payed for a week and only stayed 2 days

Update: company has said "they will review internally" and "unfortunately there is nothing they can do". Considering there have been reviews just like my experience since the beginning of 2022, nothing will be done about this location and they will continue to con people out of their hard earned money they paid...please do not be fooled into this trap
