Reservations problem, gave our site away before we got there.

We made our reservations at the KOA in North Bend (Coos Bay) campground 8 mths ago, talk to the owner. He put us in a "big boy spot" and said we are all fixed up. On our way here about a hr and 1/2 away we get a call from one of the ladies and said they are going to move us to a 30 watt site instead of a 50. My husband said just as long as we can still fit we are 68 feet long. Her reply was "oh ya no problem we have you in a big boy spot". So we get here and we are in a small spot that we don't fit into, so he goes in a tells them that we are in to small of a spot. They proceed to tell us that we can either unhook or leave with out a refund. ( very rudly mind you) We just drove 11 hrs to get here, made our reservations 8 mths in advance so we wouldn't have a problem my husband said to them. He had a very pleasant conversation with the owner himself about the reservation and was told everything was taken care of. We always stay at KOA's and have never been treated so poorly!! We did see on a posting in the office that the owner that my husband had talk to on the phone had passed away recently, I guess the great customer service went him. (So sorry on his passing) I would think that representing the KOA name that they would stand up to their great customer service but we got no help from anyone. Very disappointing for sure!!

WARNING, DO NOT GO!!!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
WARNING, DO NOT GO!!! ALL CAMPERS ARE NOT TREATED EQUAL!!! Arrived at check-in to find an inexperienced boy behind the desk who could not find our reservation. When questioning us about who took the reservation and when it was made, he also advised us that the campground was full. This is the same reservation we had made 2 weeks prior and in-person with Manager, Marcie and paid in full and even received an email confirmation from Marcie. We showed the boy the payment receipt and the e-mail confirmation. We asked to speak to the Manager, Marcie. We were told she was on her way to Vermont. We asked for the owners and we were told they were not there either. The boy called Marcie on the phone but the two seemed more intent on finding out who made the mistake than trying to resolve it (even though it was Marcie that took the reservation). The boy eventually found the reservation and it was thought the dates may have been documented wrong but we quickly realized there was something sketchy happening. Although when I originally made the reservations with Marcie, I drove thru the campground and selected site #40, we were now being told that they do not reserve sites, they are only assigned upon arrival. Conversely, I was told there was another camper was on his way and will be camping on site #40. The boy mentioned that the camper just called to pay. We questioned this contradiction. We said that we are here now and it should be first come/first serve. We questioned when that camper made their reservation. We were told by the boy that he didn’t know when the reservation was made by the other camper (we suspect the other camper had just made the reservation, paid and was promised site #40). We deduced that we were being bounced to make room for this camper as the boy and Marcie referred to this camper by name. After almost an hour of back and forth with the boy being on the phone with Marcie, they attempted to offer us another site (#9) that was too close to the highway for us. We said since we are here, we’ll take the site we reserved and paid for (#40) and you can put the other camper on #9. They refused. Again, we questioned the contradiction. “If you don’t assign sites at the time of reservation then why is that camper being given #40? We said since we are here, made reservations 2 weeks ago and paid in full in person with Marcie, why can’t we go on site #40, “it’s vacant?” They repeated the contradiction. Finally, we told them we were going to camp on the site we reserved (#40). We were quickly told that if we did that the police were going to be called. While we were there another camper came in to complain about being taken advantage of. No Ownership/Management on-site during business hours/ a campground’s busy time. Left a boy who only does maintenance for the campground in charge during a campground’s busy time…a weekend. Lies, Deception, Threats, Mistreatment, and Mismanagement. Appalling!!!

Big rig not friendly at site 107

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Mercer/Grove City KOA. Advertises deluxe pull through sites. One is site 107. We had the site next to it for 4 nights Day one a Cornerstone took about 20 minutes to shoe horn in. Then had to take 10 to 15 to back out. Had Charlie not been a very calm and expert driver with 3 spotters he could have easily damaged that expensive rig Next came an inexperienced 5th wheel driver with a brand new rig and truck. It was obvious the driver had a rough day already and couldn’t get into the site. He asked for a different site, but instead a second park employee came to make him try again. After that, a 3rd park employee came to badger him more making comments like “ a good driver could do it” and “we’ve had 55 footers in here”. By this time I had joined 3 or 4 other bystanders. The owner of the 5th wheel came to me and said “they want me to drive the 5th wheel over the patio curb to get in”. I looked at the patio and estimated it to be 6 inches above grade and immediately said that’s crazy. Finally as more bystanders were noticing, the park decided to get him a different site This is not acceptable for any KOA. When we book a pull through advertised as deluxe and long, we shouldn’t have issues pulling in or out. And to have these park employees badgering the driver to the extent he almost took a big gouge out of his new pickup is truly wrong

Most KOA's are not big rig friendly. They need to keep their trees trimmed at a minimum of 16 foot.

Not A KOA in my book- St. Louis/Granite City

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
We like KOA campgrounds and are willing to pay the extra for them. We were very disappointed by our recent stay in Granite City IL. It’s a dump. We stayed in C5. Behind us was a shed and connected to the shed was a fence. The fence was covered in a tarp. The tarp was almost hiding all the junk. The bugs were horrible. I realize bugs happen, but there are companies that will spray for them. We could not go out of the camper after dusk. The office and laundry are only open from 9-7. This on top of the fact that it is next to a truck terminal and close to the railroad tracks. This campground is tired and in need of an upgrade and some TLC. The pool area was ok and the kids at the desk on checkout were very nice. This place is not worth the money at all!

Also they boast internet. That may be true, but you can’t really use it.

We used data because the internet didn’t work. No we were not streaming.

Made two reservatons dependant on price for storing my rv for week. Was not sure of price because it would be stored at service station across from KOA. Was told they would get back to me. My koa conf. did not include this info. I called to check on price before I came and was given a price that was unacceptable. I advised to cancel the transaction. They charged me for the two reservations and have been extremly rude, will not return my calls to discuss. Owner has informed employees not to talk with me. I am a member and frequent contributor to group of several thousand called RVing to Alaska. We keep members informed of the good and bad experiences. I will be posting this KOA in Homer and advising them if this is not corrected.plus contact the BBB of Homer..

Manager is a thief

On our last night of a 4 night stay, my 2 boys and I went up to do some laundry. I put $5 in quarters in the washer that wasn't marked how much it was. I said something the manager (Maurice) and he agreed it was broken. He then went to the cash register and gave me $2.25 in quarters. I said what is this? He said your refund. Raising my voice i said I put $5 in it and i want $5 back. He asked my camp site number, went back to the register printed out a refund for my last night stay, instructed me I had an hr to pack up and get out or he was calling the police. This KOA is so busy i guess they can treat customers like ***

I am a KOA club member. I specifically stated that I did not want water/electric for a tent site. The clerk up-charged me by $9, after accepting my club card for a $4 discount, placing me in a site with water/electric when nearby primitive tent sites were open and available. This has happened to me previously twice this spring at KOA campgrounds. The dishonesty of staff brings the reputation of the entire KOA campground network down. A simple tent site should be $31, but was $40 at Green River, Utah, a pit of a KOA.

The place was decent. But the people running it are rude. And because I’m only 39 was setting a double standard on rent

I’m a welder that travels for work 10 months out of the year. Since it’s just my wife and myself now we both agreed that a camper would be best for us. So when we got it we stayed at the Koa (cartersville) ga. Before deciding if we wanted to stay there the two months we are having to travel for work we stayed a week to get the feel for the place. The other campers were awesome. We meet a few of the extended stay people and over dinner a few times we asked about how the place was longer than a week. Everyone said man you pay 575 for a month and that’s it. So the week came to an end and so we inquired about staying for a month or so. The lady running the office Ann Camp tells us that we would have to pay two months and a deposit to even stay there. But this is after the younger lady her daughter said month to month to my wife literally two hours earlier. Bear in mind that most guests there are older.

Cheated out of one night deposit.

Reserved $57.76 for one night on 6/27/2019 - cancelled on 6/28/2019 because we found one closer to our destination. Policy makes it sound as though you will get your deposit back, less $10, if you cancel within 48 hours, which we did. Then they tell us you have to cancel 48 hours ahead of time to get your deposit back, so they kept the whole $57.76. They get a lot of money from forfeited deposits by playing games with the policy wording. My guess is all that forfeited money is never reported to the IRS.

Good then bad

Just returned home from a 2 week "get the bugs out " trip. RV hasn't been out in 2 years plus. Not from lack of desire, but family issues. The whole trip was good except for the stay at the KOA Chattanooga North, close to Cleveland, Tennessee where we attended a conference. I hate to say it, but in 30 yrs of rving, I can't remember the last time that I stayed at a place that obviously did not care for their campers at all. Young managers. We stayed there 3 years ago and it was great. Now, not so good. Wifi was down for 4 out of 5 days there and they didn't care. They told us when we checked in that their wifi was terrible. When I went up front to ask about it being down, their reply was "I didn't know it was down", their attitude was "so what" don't bug me. Also, there was hardly was ever anyone in the office to report anything to. When it was supposed to be open, it was locked, and no one was inside. Like I said, we returned there because the last time we were there, it was a good experience, this time it was a place to park. I could have done that at wal mart. Would have gotten a better attitude if I had. Won't go back there again. But, on the bright side of things, I read 3 books in the last 2 weeks. Overall, the trip was good and served it's purpose. Biloxi, Ms was great and Gulf Beach RV resort was a great place, right across Beach Blvd from the beach. And, I found a few things that I need to do to the rv before embarking on a longer trip/ Ken

Excellent Camping Experience

We just completed a four day camping trip at KOA Cranbrook & it truly was one of the best experiences. The campground is beautifully laid out with plenty of room between units, water, sewer, electrical, cable, WIFI connection. The entire grounds are beautifully maintained, although we did not use the washroom facilities, we did look at them & yes, they are spotlessly clean & private. Our spot allowed us to enjoy the peaceful sound of the river. The Casino was somewhat of a disappointed as it is in a renovation process, which apparently will be completed mid-July, low cash payouts! We did most of own cooking but did go to the Smokehouse Restaurant for an excellent burger, the 19 Hole Clubhouse appetizers were not enjoyable. The managers, Katherine & Richard are truly awesome, they gave lots of information and in fact, Richard came to our trailer to help us set of our TV, we have had the unit for 7 years & have never used the TV as we couldn't figure out how it was supposed to work. Kudos to Richard, that was above & beyond. We have already booked more trips to this amazing place.

That's common in the Moab area during any special event. The cops use motorists as a revenue source.
